MORENCI, MI – The National Wiffle League Association (NWLA) Tournament Presented by Visit Lenawee has announced the Community Slow-Pitch Tournament that is scheduled for Thursday, July 13, 2017, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The Community Slow-Pitch Tournament is sponsored by the Morenci Area Chamber of Commerce. The tournament is a continuation of last year’s slow-pitch tournament that was held the night before the NWLA Tournament Regional in Morenci that featured eight (8) participating teams. A team from the downriver Detroit area won.
The Community Slow-Pitch Tournament features a modified double-elimination bracket, which means that the championship game is winner-take-all, even if the team coming out of the winner’s bracket is dealt its first loss. The championship game will take place on Friday, July 14, 2017, at 6:00 p.m., and is part of the Friday night activities prior to the beginning of actual tournament on Saturday. A trophy will be provided to the winning team. Friday night of the tournament weekend will also feature an All Star Game Presented by Lightning Quick Gas Stations, a Home Run Derby Presented by D & P Communications, and an awards ceremony honoring contributions to the sport of wiffleball from the past year.
NWLA Tournament Presented by Visit Lenawee Committee Member Carl Coffee is excited to bring back the Community Slow-Pitch Tournament. He stated the following regarding the tournament:
“Last year I didn’t know what to expect when we had a bunch of community members playing wiffleball before the NWLA guys came into town. They embraced the sport and took it just as serious as the guys who played the next day. With more time to plan it this year, and with this being the second annual Community Slow-Pitch Tournament, I expect it to be even bigger and better.”
Those individuals wishing to participate in this year’s Community Slow-Pitch Tournament are encouraged to visit the NWLA Tournament Presented by Visit Lenawee’s website at www.NWLATournament.com (Scroll to About – Details for more information on the Community Slow-Pitch Tournament). It is free to participate.
